There are some key differences between your current self and your future self.  Your future self is an elevated version of your current self who has been through things, experiences, and gained knowledge to become the next level of you.  One of the best ways can connect with your future self is through visualization.  Visualizing your future self, who you are being, what you are doing, etc. will help you get in tune with that higher version of you.  Learn how to visualize your future self and start acting like her today.

Walk Into A Room

Begin by visualizing how your future self would walk into a room.  Maybe your future self would stand tall, proud, confident, shoulders back, chin up, and look people in the eyes.  An alternative version, which may be your current self, is head down, hunched over, not giving eye contact.  You can easily see the difference between these two versions.  On eludes confidence while the other is shy and recoiled inward.  When you’re thinking of your highest, most confident self, envision what that exactly looks like when you walk into a room.  You might command attention from the room or just walk in knowing that you’re worthy and meant to be there.  Think about a theme or hype up song that would get you into an empowering stance to walk into a room knowing that you’re acting from your highest self.

Decisions

Next, consider how your future self makes decisions.  Perhaps you visualize yourself taking decisive action and just trying things, knowing that you can learn from any missteps to make adjustments and changes.  On the other hand, maybe your current self is someone who hems and haws over decisions, is overanalytical, indecisive, and questions each move wondering if there is a better option.  If your future self knew that you would not fail or had the tools to figure it out no matter what, consider how you would make decisions from that vantage point.  One side is full of self doubt, fear, and worry while the other acts from a place of confidence knowing that everything will work out.  Successful people make a decision, take quick action, and keep taking action until the goal is achieved.  Otherwise, you’re stuck in decision fatigue and never get in the game.

Fear

Then, visualize how your future self would respond to fear.  Maybe your future self would embrace fear, take action, and believe that things will work out.  Your current self may shy away from fear by running and hiding.  This also comes into play when you don’t know the path or full clarity on the steps to achieve your goals.  It’s how you take action through the fear of the unknown that will ultimately make the difference between achieving and not achieving your goals.

Self Talk

In your future self visualization, pay attention to how you are speaking to yourself.  Think about the internal thoughts replaying in your mind.  These thoughts are either filled with the negative committee of all the reasons why you can’t achieve your goal or positivity to empower you that yes you can do this.  The famous Henry Ford quote, if you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.  What you’re telling yourself day in and day out is what you start to believe.  You can either believe the criticism, self doubt, and reasons why this won’t work or you can choose to believe something different.  It’s the thoughts you play on repeat that become your reality so choose more beneficial thoughts.  Visualize what your future self would say to you if you knew your success was inevitable.

Priorities

Lastly, visualize what your future self is prioritizing that you might currently be avoiding.  It could be your future self is focused on self care, getting enough sleep, planning daily tasks, etc.  Rarely is your future self consumed by self doubt, procrastinating, or waiting for everything to be perfect.  You might be currently using these tactics as a way to avoid completing the difficult tasks required to achieve your goals.  But, when you start prioritizing what your future self would do or need from you right now, you’ll start making massive progress towards your goals.  You’ll start acting from that higher version of you with confidence.

Visualizing what your future self would do, say, and act in certain situations will help you find the courage to be your future self today.  Instead of shying away from fear, living in decision overload, you begin telling yourself a more empowering story.  A story that you can do difficult things, take action towards your goals, and achieve success.  Visualize your future self and start acting like her today!
