Your future self is just the next level version of who you are today. It’s a higher version of you that has been through certain life experiences to gain new knowledge and expertise along the way. Who you are being today, what you are doing, and how you’re showing up is creating this future version of you. However, there is an obvious, clear gap between who you are, where you are today and who you are, where you are in the future. Learn how you can bridge this gap faster by stepping into a realistic, action oriented identity.
This isn’t about creating a whole new identity for yourself. It’s about becoming the version of you who goes after your goals and dreams in life. Envision what this version of you requires from you today. Maybe that’s using a to do list, meal planning, working out, etc. This future version of you is brave, courageous, determined, ambitious, etc. Consider what this future version of you does and looks like from an identity level.
There is a gap between where you are and where you want to be. Sometimes it’s hard to step into that future version of you because you don’t fully identify with that version of you yet. You haven’t achieved the goal, been through certain experiences, learned necessary lessons, etc. That future version of you is wiser, smarter, and more courageous because of the things your future self had to go through in order to get to where they are. But, bridging that gap is possible and it starts with small steps.
The first step is to create a bridge belief for yourself. A bridge belief will help you fill the gap between your current identity and your future self. Create a bridge belief based off an action of what you’re doing that you can believe right now. Such as, I’m saving money, I’m healing my body, I’m taking care of myself, etc. It’s what you are doing and the actual action that you can believe today. It’s not the end result of what you want to have because you don’t have it yet.
The identity of your future self is impossible to believe because you don’t believe that belief just yet. For example, your future self may identity as I lost 25 pounds, I’m a morning person, etc. It’s not who you currently are so it’s difficult to relate to your future self. That’s where the bridge belief comes in. Find a bridge belief that you can believe right now with where you’re at. This is the identity of what you’re doing in order to get you to where you want to be and ultimately become your future self.
In this whole process, you’re learning, evolving, and growing through all of this. This is what inevitably helps you become your future self. You’re enjoying the journey to get there. That is also not easy because there will be times when you doubt yourself, slide back into old habits or ways of being, past identities, and wonder why isn’t this happening fast enough for you. But, remind yourself of what you’re working towards, why it’s important to you, and the identity you’re stepping into in order to get there.
Envision your life in the future when you have what you want. Embodying how that will feel and what it will mean when you achieve your goal. Feeling into those feelings and positive vibes of creating the life you want. Showing yourself images of what you want in the future reminds yourself what you’re putting all this hard work and time into building. Visualize who you are being and what identity your future self has taken on. This is what’s possible for you.
You are creating your identity over time. It’s going to build, shift, change, and adjust with your life experiences. Some will make you smarter, wiser, tired, and exhausted but it’s all building you up to the amazing, resilient person you are. With time, you’ll eventually achieve your goal. Have patience to know that this a journey and you’re becoming better every step you take. You’re not just remaining stuck with who you currently are. You’re learning and evolving with each step of the way. Remain in action. Act with the identity of your bridge belief. This will get you to where you want to be so much faster!
