Who You Need To Be In The New Year

Dec 23, 2021

As the year winds down, now is the perfect time to reflect over the past year and figure out how you need to show up in the new year in order to achieve the goals that you’ve set.  Take a deep look at who you are being and what you need to do differently in the new year.  Here are three steps to help you do just that.

Who You’ve Been Being

Start by focusing on who you’ve been being over this past year.  Think about how you have shown up for yourself and your goals.  Maybe you’ve done things that have pushed you outside your comfort zone.  You may have expanded your comfort zone by putting yourself out there and trying some new things that you’ve never done before.  Or, perhaps you held yourself back by letting the fear, worry, and self doubt prevent you from achieving your goals.  Reflect back over this past year to truly take a look at who you have been being and how you have been showing up in your life.

Who You Need To Be

Next, you need to decide who you need to be in the new year to achieve your goals.  Think about what you would do, how you would act and show up in the world.  You will need to do things that you’ve never done before in order to achieve your goals.  Contemplate what you need to do differently next year to get you to where you want to be.  Take into consideration what you would need to believe about yourself and your goal.  This could be that you’re confident, capable, worthy, courageous, a leader, etc.  Dig deep and think about how you need to show up for yourself, your family, your goals, and the future you want to create.

What Will Help You

Lastly, think about what will help you fully step into this future version of you.  Maybe that’s establishing non-negotiable boundaries.  Such as, not working on weekends and evenings.  Another boundary you could set is to not allow yourself to fall into the trap of negative self talk.  You may also need to write down your priorities so that you know what’s most important to you.  This might include spending time with your family and scheduling down time to recharge from a busy week.  Other possible priorities are scheduling a weekly date night or taking an afternoon off to consistently reconnect with your goals and dreams.  The future version of you that you need to be has set boundaries and knows what’s most important in life to prioritize the things that will help you successfully achieve your goals.

This year may not have gone exactly as you had planned.  But, you can still learn from it.  Assess how you showed up this year and where you fell short.  Don’t beat yourself up.  Instead, focus on the year ahead and visualize who you need to be in order to achieve your goals in the new year.  Lastly, set some boundaries and know your priorities that what will help you to step into this future version of you that you’re truly meant to be.  You’ve got an amazing year ahead!  It’s time to step into being the version of you that makes it happen!
