When You Feel Like Giving Up On Your Goal

Feb 22, 2024

There are times when you feel down, out, and don’t want to work towards your goal.  You’d rather stay in bed, curled up under the warm covers.  Getting up and working on your goal can be extremely tough and tiring.  It’s easier just to pull the blanket over your head and close your eyes to go back to sleep.  But, this doesn’t help you to achieve your goals.  You’re not doing anything but hiding and hoping that some how you’ll muster up the willpower to get yourself into motion.  Here is what to do when you don’t want to work on your goal and feel like giving up.

Giving Up

There are many reasons why you may not want to work on your goal.  But, it usually boils down to the fact that things got challenging so you stopped taking action and you’re just not where you’d like to be.  You feel like you should be further along and you begin to think that maybe you’re just not cut out for this.  Perhaps you compare yourself to others and see their success which belittles any progress you’ve made.  You feel behind, incapable, and less than.  In your mind, you’re beginning to think that maybe you should just throw in the towel and give up on your goal.

Be Brave

The sorrow, grief, guilt, and shame of not being where you’d like to be is discouraging.  It’s like a dark cloud of sadness is hanging over you.  To get you out of this funk, you’re going to have to be brave by showing up for yourself and your goals.  Sometimes being brave means simply getting out of bed in the morning.  It’s taking that one small step that will eventually get you to feeling a tiny bit better.  Push yourself to be brave, take action, and do one little thing to work on your goal, especially when you don’t feel like it.

Small Progress

You may think you have such a long way to go to achieve your goal which feels daunting and overwhelming.  You might be questioning if you should still keep going.  Remember to look back at how far you’ve already come.  You often forget about your progress and where you originally started from.  Celebrate your progress and the small milestones, even if you don’t think you’re quite where you should be.  When you get up each day and take action, that means something.  Be proud of yourself for the hard work you’ve been putting in.  Remember that massive progress isn’t made overnight.  It’s the tiny baby steps.  Keep track of the small progress you have made.  Even the slightest amount matters.

Big Goals

Anytime you hit an obstacle or make a mistake, you may see it as a sign that you’re not on the right path.  Yet, you are.  All of this is actually evidence that you are on the right path.  You’re going to encounter challenges if you want to achieve a big goal.  If you don’t, your goal was too small to begin with.  Goals are meant to be challenging and stretch you.  Big goals take a lot of hard work and dedication to keep taking action.  You can’t give up on your goals that easily.

Believe In Yourself

Other people will try and limit you by telling you all the reasons why you can’t achieve your goal.  Don’t listen to them.  Do not let anyone else put a damper on your goals and dreams in life.  What someone else did, said, or where they are should not have any bearing on your ability to achieve your own goal.  You can do this!  Put your head down, blinders on, and get to work to run your own race.  Focus on your goal and the next step you need to take.  Ignore the people who don’t believe in you.  Believe in yourself.  You are smart, capable, worthy, and able to achieve your goal.  Do not let anyone else tell you otherwise.  Find that inner belief in yourself and use that power as motivation to take action towards your goal.

Working to achieve your goal is not always sunshine, rainbows, and candy canes.  The journey gets difficult and you feel like giving up.  But, you can’t.  You have so much to achieve in your lifetime.  You can’t give up now!  You might want to stay in bed where it’s cozy and warm.  Yet, this isn’t doing you any favors to make progress towards your goal.  Hiding won’t help.  It’s time to get yourself into action.  Be brave, track your progress, and believe in yourself that you can achieve big goals in your life.
