What To Do When You're In Between Goals

Jul 14, 2022

You’ve just achieved a big goal.  Now what?  You’ve dedicated so much time and effort working towards achieving your goal.  It’s consumed so much of your time.  After that massive amount of work, you were able to achieve something that you’ve dreamt of for so long.  But, now you may be feeling lost and stuck, not knowing what’s next for you.  That in between stage can be a bit scary.  You may be thinking that you just want to play it safe rather than step outside your comfort zone and take a risk to achieve another goal.  However, as an achiever, you don’t want to just coast through the rest of your life.  You want to continue learning and growing.  Here are four things you can do when you’re in between goals.

Educate Yourself

Start by reading books on topics that peak your curiosity.  Educate yourself further by taking an online course or decide to go back to school.  Get a degree in a field that interests you.  Discover your passion and excitement for life of what lights you up.  Think about what gets you excited about your future and dive deeper into that field.  Do some research and find some resources to expand your knowledge in that area.

Find A New Hobby

Explore your creativity and take up knitting, drawing, painting, building something with your hands, etc.  Try a new sport or learn a musical instrument.  Pick something you’re a novice at and become the expert.  Maybe there’s something you’ve always wanted to learn how to do.  There is no time like the present.  Now is the perfect time.  Don’t get to the end of your life wondering what it would have been like to try learning something new.

Volunteer

Donate your time to helping others.  Perhaps you can volunteer at a humane society or women’s shelter.  Find a place where you can make a difference in other people’s lives.  It could be working for a non profit organization or helping to raise money for a worthy cause.  Look into ways that you can give back and help others in need.  This not only fuels your heart but also feeds your soul to make you feel good about your contribution in life.  These experiences will help you learn and grow.

Mentor

Lastly, look at the goal you just achieved and see if there is a way that you can teach others how to achieve something similar faster and easier than you did.  Become a coach or develop your own online course.  Maybe you want to share your experience on social media to inspire others.  Become a mentor on the topic you just mastered.  Take what you’ve learned and teach it others.

The uncomfortable periods of time between the goal you just achieved and your next goal can serve you.  You may feel a little bit lost and in limbo.  But, take this time to figure out ways to challenge yourself.  When you continue to set the bar higher for yourself, you continue to learn and grow.  Focus on internal improvements to be the best version of yourself.  That requires continual learning and exploration to up level.  Always be trying something new and when you do that, you’ll never get stuck in the in between of your goals.
