Trusting Your Future Self When You Don’t See Results Yet

Letting go of control and trusting your future self can sound almost impossible.  It feels like you’re throwing caution to the wind.  You’re just supposed to magically trust and believe that everything will work out in your favor.  But, what if you’re not seeing results, feel like you’re messing up, and falling farther behind?  It’s hard to trust that there is a light at the end of the tunnel when it feels so dark where you currently are.

Self Doubt

Maybe nothing feels like it’s going right in your life.  This is when self doubt, fear, and worry find their opening and climb right in.  Imagine those three banging pots, pans, using blow horns, and streamers as if it’s a party bus.  Those negative voices start to get really loud about why you can’t achieve your goals and how you should just quit right now before you embarrass yourself any more.  But, there are a few tools you can use to quiet those voices quickly and effectively.  Here are four ways you can stop listening to the negative committee and start trusting your future self, even when you don’t see results just yet.

Past Evidence

The first is to look for past evidence.  Recall when you went through something difficult and you made it out the other side.  Sure, it wasn’t easy and you thought that this season of your life may go on forever, but it didn’t.  You survived.  You lived to tell about it and you’re stronger because of it.  This is proof that what you’re going through right now may just be another speed bump in your life’s journey.  It doesn’t mean that you’re failing or doing anything wrong.  It’s just testing your endurance, will power, and determination to achieve your goal.  You don’t give up in this moment.  Instead, your future self uses past evidence as proof that it’s possible.  Possible is all you need to believe and have hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  This isn’t just trust and believe that your success is inevitable.  There is verifiable proof in your past that you have achieved success.

Focus On The Good Stuff

Next, is to look for the good parts.  Find the silver lining and the small sunbreaks through the clouds.  These are the little things that are going right in your life.  Maybe you’re being consistent with taking action towards your goals, even though you aren’t seeing the progress you’d like.  Celebrate all your small wins and little milestones no matter how tiny they are.  This can give you confidence and evidence that not all things are going wrong.  There are things that are going right for you.  Sometimes you just have to look really hard to see them.  Pay attention and be grateful for what you do have.  Gratitude is shining the light in the darkness and reminding you that there are things to be grateful for, even if it doesn’t happen on your expected timeline.  Remind yourself of what has been going right.

Growth

Then, keep going even when things get difficult and you feel like giving up.  Sometimes you feel like nothing is happen, when really it is.  You’re learning and growing through each obstacle and challenge.  Growth is not easy.  It usually just takes a while for the results to roll in.  Achieving your goal often does not happen on your timeline.  You have to let go of wanting the perfect road map, plan, and outcome.  You’ll get there after you’ve learned the lessons and been through it.  It’s all part of the journey as a test to either give up because you’re not seeing results yet or to keep going.  The biggest leaps of growth happen when you keep going.  Your future self knows this but your current self struggles when you’re deep in it.  There is massive growth required to achieve your goal and get to where you want to be.

Be The Light

Lastly, be the light of your future self.  Be the light in the darkness.  Know that your future self is waiting for you on the other side when you’re in the thick of it.  You might not see the light of your future self, so you have to tune in and start shining that light today.  Think about how your future self would act, respond, and do in these situations.  She wouldn’t fall into the self doubt, fear, and worry trap.  She’d step up, take action, and keep going.  Ask yourself what would your future self do in this situation and then take that action.  Show up as her today.

The key here is to stay in it.  Don’t give up.  Stay consistent, even when your motivation drops.  You keep taking action, using past experiences, focusing on the good things happening in your life right now, accepting growth, and realizing that you are the light that will get you to achieve your goals.  It’s what you do day in and day out to see results.  Trust your future self to help guide you through the darkness.  She is waiting for you on the other side

Take Action Challenge

The Trust the Process Reset

This week, your challenge is to stop focusing only on results and start noticing the proof that progress is already happening.

Step 1: Find Past Proof

Write down three hard things you’ve already overcome in your lifetime.

Ask yourself:

  • What did you learn?
  • How did you grow?
  • What strength did you build?

This reminds you that you’ve made it through difficulties before.

Step 2: Spot Today’s Wins

List five things going right in your life right now, even small ones.

Examples:

  • You kept going today
  • You showed up for yourself
  • You're learning patience
  • You took one action step
  • You didn’t quit

Small wins count.

Step 3: Reframe the Delay

Choose one area where results feel slow right now.

Then, write maybe nothing is wrong and maybe you're just growing through this season.

Shift from frustration to trust.

Step 4: Become the Light

Ask yourself what would your future self do right now?

Then, take one action from her mindset today.

Even tiny action builds that belief.

Step 5: Stay In It

For the next week, commit to consistency over emotion.

No matter how you feel, take one small aligned daily action step.

You don’t need to see results to know that progress is happening.

Sometimes the biggest transformation is invisible, until suddenly it isn’t.

Keep going!
