The Year Of The Fire Horse

Feb 19, 2026

You are just a few days into the Chinese New Year, which is the year of the fire horse.  This is a rare, once every sixty-year combination where fire meets the horse.  In Chinese astrology, there are five elements that change every two years and twelve animals that rotate each year.  This creates the comprehensive sixty-year calendar cycle.  Let’s take a look at what the year of the fire horse means and how it can help you achieve your goals this year.

Year Of The Fire Horse

The year of the fire horse symbolizes intense energy, passion, and big transformation.  It’s a time for pursuing your goals, taking risks, and making big life decisions.  It is considered to be a time for bold, fast paced action.  This is a period to break old, stagnant patterns and finally go after your goals.  It’s time to step into the year of the fire horse and stop letting your old habits and limiting beliefs hold you back from living the life you’ve always imagined.

Action

One of the key themes this year is taking action.  It’s being courageous and making bold decisions in your life.  No more sitting on the sidelines humming and hawing, undecisive on what to do.  It’s time to get in the game, make a decision, and actually act on it.  This decision does not need to be final.  You can make adjustments, pivot, and redirect.  But, getting into action is what’s going to help you experience enormous transformation this year.  This is the year where you change and you become the person who takes action.

Horse

The horse symbolizes fast moving speed and high energy.  Think of a race horse who takes off down the track at lightning speed.  For you, this is working really hard, feet to the ground, running as fast as you can to quickly achieve your goals.  But, a word of caution because this sounds a lot like having a hustle mentality.  You have to watch your pace so that you don’t burn out.  Remember, this is the year of the fire horse.  Fire is also a major theme this year that amplifies the horse’s traits.

Fire

Fire is demonstrated in many ways.  You can be a trailblazer and ignite the path forward, riding on the momentum of the fire horse.  Or, you can also burn out and become engulfed in the flames of your own demise.  This is why it’s incredibly important to balance the element of fire with the horse aspect.  You cannot continue hitting the ground running one hundred miles per hour without burn out.  One thing you may want to do this year is to take little sprints of fast action balanced with set down time to recharge so that you avoid burn out.  You have a blazing desire to achieve your goals but you must learn how best to support yourself in the year of the fire horse.

Burn The Boats

Another fire element comes into the play with the phrase burn the boats.  Burning the boats comes from the story of Hernan Cortes who, upon landing, destroyed the ships to make sure that the troops could only move forward.  There was no way to retreat.  This metaphor is most commonly used to demonstrate when you commit one hundred percent to your goal and eliminate all possibility of turning back.  It’s creating a point of no return.  There is no going back to where you were or who you were.  Failure is not an option.  You must be brave and keep going.  Consider how you can burn the boats this year and go all in to achieve your goals.

Where you are right now is not where you’ll be at the end of this year if you take the actions necessary to achieve your goals.  The year of the fire horse will make sure of that.  This is a year of rapid change, transformation, and growth.  Decide what you want to achieve this year and then take bold action to make it happen.  You can do this!  Burn the boats and let's go!

Take Action Challenge

The Fire Horse 30-Day Sprint

This is about bold movement and sustainable momentum.

Step 1: Choose Your One Big Move

Ask yourself: What bold action have I been avoiding that would actually move the needle this year?

Choose ONE Goal:

  • Learn a new skill

  • Start a conversation

  • Apply for the thing

  • Join the program

No more overthinking. Just make one decision.

Step 2: Strategically Burn the Boats

Remove the escape route.

  • Cancel distractions

  • Block time on your calendar

  • Announce your goal to one trusted person

  • Invest in the thing that makes quitting your goal uncomfortable

Make retreat harder than progress.

Step 3: Sprint And Recover

For 30 days:

  • Take one bold, uncomfortable action five days a week

  • Build in two intentional recharge days for rest and reflect

This way, you are not hustling yourself into burnout.  You are using the fire with your own internal wisdom to check in with yourself.

Step 4: Track Your Transformation

At the end of 30 days ask yourself:

  • Who am I becoming?

    • Examples: early riser, planner, lover instead of hater, etc.
  • What fears no longer control or stop me?

    • Examples: disbelief that you can't do this, that you're incapable, not smart enough, etc.
  • What proof or evidence do I now have that I've taken action to achieve my goal?

    • Example: you can do difficult things, overcome challenges, expand your comfort zone and live, etc.

This is how you can intentionally step into the Fire Horse energy without burning yourself down.
