How To React To The Success Of Others

Nov 10, 2022

Comparing your success to others can be triggering.  You can have one of two reactions when you someone shares their success or progress with you.  Let’s take a look at each of these reactions and see how it helps you or hinders you to achieve your own goals.

Success Trigger

The first reaction is to be triggered by another person’s success.  You might feel frustrated, annoyed, bitter, resentful, or that something is wrong with you because you’re not making progress at the same rate as someone else.  You might feel like you’re not doing enough, you’re not far enough along, or that you’re ultimately behind.  You may get jealous, upset, or envious and think that there is less success available for you.  Perhaps you even react by discounting or down playing the success of others because it initially makes you feel better to justify why you haven’t achieved success yet.  You find yourself making excuses as to why someone else has made progress and you haven’t.  All of these are negative reactions.

Stops Progress

Dismissing the success of others does not work in your favor.  It doesn’t help you get to where you want to go.  It only hurts you, discourages you, and deflates your mood.  This negative energy is toxic to your own progress because you stop showing up for your own goals and dreams.  You feel down, depressed, and wonder what’s the point.  This in turn causes you to give up and stop taking action to achieve your goal.

Success Possibility

On the other hand, when you see someone else succeed, it can show you proof of what’s possible.  If it has been done before, it can be replicated, repeated, and even surpassed.  When you see someone else achieve success, realize that it’s just a sign that you’re on the right path and moving in the appropriate direction.  More people are giving you proof and evidence that it’s possible for you too.  The fact that someone else has success means that you can absolutely have success in your life.  Shift your mindset to view seeing someone else’s success as proof that it’s possible for you.

Success Mindset

Have an abundant mindset and celebrate the success of others.  Be excited for someone else’s success and you know what?  You’ll still be able to have your success too!  There’s not less for you just because someone else achieved success.  That thought stems from lack and a scarcity mindset that there isn’t enough to go around.  Other people can achieve success too.  Would you really prefer everyone else to be miserable and not achieve their goals?  No!  When you have a scarcity mindset, envy and jealousy comes out.  It breeds negative energy, it’s petty, and just looks bad on you.  Have an abundant mindset where you see success as proof that you’re on the right track and that success is headed your way.

Watch how you’re reacting when you see someone else’s success.  If you’re reacting in a negative way, work to change your thoughts so that you see the success of others as a positive.  With negative energy, you’re less likely to take action and experience progress towards your own goals in life.  Instead, create positive energy around success so that it opens you up to receiving more success in your life.  Believe that is possible for you to replicate and even surpass someone else’s success.  Choose to look at the success of others through the lens of what’s possible for you to achieve.  Celebrate the success of others so that it opens you up to receive that kind of success and abundance for yourself.  With the right mindset, you can achieve your goal and the success you desire in your life.
