Five Ways On How To Act With Courage

Apr 30, 2020

It takes a lot of courage to go after your goals and dreams in life.  Often fear paralyzes you from stepping outside your comfort zone of what you’ve already deemed safe.  However, remaining in your comfort zone will only hold you back from fully living your dream life.  If you want to live the life you’ve always imaged then it’s time to start acting with courage.

Here are five ways on how to act with courage.

1. Stop Overthinking

Sitting there mulling over what you should do will only keep you stuck.  You may think you need more information; that you don’t know everything in order to make an informed decision.  At which point you decide it’s a good idea to ask other people for their opinions.  This only causes you to get more confused.  Overthinking things prevents you from taking any action at all.  Stop waiting for all the answers and the perfectly laid out plan of action.  Just have the courage to start.

2. Quiet Your Inner Voice

Silence your inner voice when you hear it speaking in a quick nervous pace.  That’s fear talking.  Your inner voice wants to keep you safe.  It would rather you do safe, easy tasks that you’re confident in because you’ve already done them before.  Your inner voice often talks you out of things and gives you all the reasons why you can’t or shouldn’t do something.  Ask yourself if it is fear talking.  When it is, have the courage to take action even when you’re scared and nervous with butterflies in your stomach.  It’s all because you’ve never done this before.  Quiet your inner voice and have the courage to do something even when you’re scared and the outcome is unknown.

3. Courageous People

Surround yourself with other courageous people.  Lean on each other and be courageous together as a group.  Sometimes it’s easier to do something you’re afraid of when it’s a group effort.  Courage is contagious.  Find people who lift you up and cheer you on.  These are positive people who believe in you even when you’re not confident in yourself yet.  Have the courage to reach out for help when you need it.

4. Reward Yourself

If you’re unable to find support from other people then it’s up to you to be courageous on your own.  Be your own accountability partner and reward yourself when you’re being courageous.  When you act with courage by doing something you’ve been putting off because you’re afraid then reward yourself.  Rewards can be small such as limited time on social media, going for a walk outside, taking a nap, etc.  Celebrate being courageous and reward yourself.

5. Evidence File

Create a courage evidence file.  This file will hold all the proof of past experiences where you have been courageous.  This file could include pictures or journal entries where you’ve had the courage to step outside your comfort zone and try something you’ve never done before.  These are proud moments when you had the courage to act even though you were afraid.  Pull from this evidence fill when you need to act with courage.

In order to act with courage start taking action and stop overthinking things.  Quiet your inner voice that’s giving you all the reasons why this isn’t a good idea.  Surround yourself with courageous people that will give you a courage boost when you need it.  Reward yourself when you do something courageous.  Lastly, create an evidence file of all the times you acted with courage.  Many successful people who look confident have insecurities and fears.  But the key is, they don’t let that hold them back.  They act with courage.  Don’t let fear hold you back.  Use these five ways on how to act with courage so that you can live your dream life.
