Finding Time For What Matters Most

Sep 29, 2022

You are a creature of habit.  You have routines from the way you get ready in the morning, traveling the same route to work, to then coming home to unwind so that you can do it all over again the next day.  Your routine becomes something that you don’t have to think about.  You just do it.  But, without having to put in much conscious thought, you can easily lose track of what matters most in your life.  The things around you become white noise when you do the same things day in and day out.  You must make it a conscious habit to keep the things that matter most to you in plain sight.

Finding Time

Sometimes you get swept up in this busyness of life that you lose track of what’s most important.  Dates with friends and family get pushed until another time when you’re not so busy.  Vacations aren’t booked because your schedule is too full to get away.  You avoid going after your goals and dreams because it’s just not the right time.  The truth is, it will never be the right time.  There will always be something that comes up in life.  That’s why it’s up to you to find and make the time for what’s most important in your life.  It will never magically appear on your schedule unless you put it there.

Schedule It

Consciously make the decision to schedule in time for what’s most important in your life.  This could be white space to simply rest and relax for yourself.  Maybe it’s making it a point to reconnect with at least one friend each week.  Reaching out to those that matter to you by showing that you care.  Even if that’s simply sending a text or a handwritten card to let them know that they matter.  Perhaps you need space to dream and visualize what you want in your future.  Schedule in something each week that will help you stay connected to what matters most in your life.

Make A List

Think about what things light you up, bring you joy, make you smile, and fill your cup.  Write down each one and make list that you can refer back to.  Include everything from the little things like savoring a warm cup of coffee, cuddling with your pet, sleeping in, get together with friends, date night with your significant other, etc.  Write it all down.  Then, make a conscious effort to do something from this list each week.  Make it a habit to find the time to incorporate the things that matters most in your life into your weekly routine.

Time will slip away and the things that matter most to you may end up on the back burner.  You didn’t mean for it to happen.  It’s just that you didn’t consciously make it a priority.  You must keep what matters most to you at the forefront of your mind, otherwise it can be easily forgotten.  Do the things that make you happy and find time for more of that.  Schedule in time for what matters most in your life so that you don’t end up with regrets.  You have only one life to live, so make the most of it by spending time doing the things that matter most to you.
