Create Your Mood Board

Jan 29, 2026

One tool you can use to help you achieve your goals this year is to create a mood board.  A mood board evokes a certain feeling within you.  This feeling can motivate and inspire you to take action towards your goals.  It acts as a reminder of what you should be focusing on.  This is especially helpful when you’re feeling lost, stuck in negative thought cycles, or needing a gentle nudge to get yourself back on track.  Here’s how you can create your mood board.

Feeling

Begin by deciding how you want this year to feel.  Maybe that’s light, peaceful, happiness, confident, stress free, etc.  Perhaps that’s the opposite of how you’re feeling right now.  Or, maybe it’s to empower you to keep going with what you’re currently doing.  Think about this year and how you want to feel.

Who You Are Being

Next, consider who you want to be this year.  Maybe you want to be more patient, kind, etc.  Perhaps you want to be more driven, confident, determined, steadfast, ambitious, etc.  Think about what that means to you and how you want to show up this year.  These are the actions you want to take which stems from who you are being.  It’s allowing you to show up more as your true, authentic self.  It’s helping you step into a higher version of you of who you want to be this year.

Word

A word of the year helps give you direction on what you want this year.  Perhaps you’ve already chosen your word of the year.  If that’s the case, more power to you and proceed with the next steps of creating your mood board.  However, if you haven’t chosen a word of the year, then choose one now.  Choose a word that emulates how you want to feel and who you want to show up and be this year.  Such as, courageous, vulnerable, loving, etc.  Use this word of the year to inspire your mood board.

Color

In order to create your mood board, start by choosing a particular color scheme.  Color evokes a particular feeling.  Maybe that’s a bright pink, a soft yellow like sunlight, a relaxing blue hue like the ocean, a deep romantic red like roses, or green like nature.  Decide what this color means to you.  Ask yourself what emotion that color brings up for you.  Consider how that specific color makes you feel.  Maybe it reminds you of a moment from your past.  Think about who you were being, what you were doing, and how you were showing up at that time.  Focus on the emotion and feeling so that you can select a color that truly represents how you want to feel this year.  This color should also empower you to show up as your highest self.

Mood Board

Then, put it all of this together and create your mood board.  Every time you look at your mood board, you should be reminded of how you want to feel this year, what you want to embody, and achieve.  Your mood board can be printed out and hung on a wall in your home or design it online for your phone’s wallpaper.  Your mood board should contain certain pictures that remind you take action towards your goals.  All of these pictures should be in the color scheme you’ve chosen.  Don’t forget to write in your word of the year somewhere on your mood board.  It’s a collage of pictures that each time you see your mood board it should evoke your feeling within you.  It’s a simple reminder of what you want this year to feel like so that you’re consciously reminded to take action towards that feeling each day.  It’s a reminder of who you want to be and where you want to be at the end of this year.  The best part of this mood board is that it’s a constant, visible representation of what you want to create this year.

Off Course

Lastly, there will be times when you find yourself veering off course.  You’re not feeling the way you want to feel, you’re in a negative headspace, you’re upset, you’re making little progress towards your goals, etc.  When this happens, rely on your mood board.  This mood board is a gentle reminder to course correct and get yourself back on track.  Take a few deep breaths, focus on your mood board, the color, the word you’ve chosen, the feeling you want to feel, and who you want to be.  Then, take one conscious action to get yourself back towards creating the life you want.

Your mood board is a powerful tool.  It’s a great, everyday reminder of what you want to create in your life.  Don’t skip this activity.  Take the time to create your mood board and watch what happens this year!

Take Action Challenge

Create Your Mood Board

This week’s challenge is to create a mood board you will actually use, not just admire once and forget.

Step 1: Decide the Feeling

Ask yourself: How do I want this year to feel?

Choose one core feeling (peaceful, confident, energized, grounded, etc.) and write it down.

Step 2: Choose Your Identity

Complete this sentence in your journal:  “This year, I am the kind of person who…”

Write 3–5 statements about who you are becoming.

Step 3: Build Your Mood Board

Create a simple mood board using Pinterest, Canva, or photos you already have.

Include:

  • Images that evoke your chosen feeling

  • Your word of the year

  • Visuals that represent who you want to be, not just what you want to have

Keep it clean, intentional, and emotionally charged.

Step 4: Place It Somewhere You’ll See Daily

Set your mood board as your phone wallpaper or print it out and place it near your desk or bathroom mirror.

Daily integration is the real magic!

Each morning, look at your mood board and ask:

👉 “What is ONE action I can take today that matches this feeling?”

Then do it—no overthinking.

This isn’t about manifesting by wishing.

It’s about taking aligned action with the life you want to create.
