No matter what, you are physically living in the present. Your life is happening right now as we speak. You want to be present when experiences happen, people come into your life, when your goals and dreams are achieved. You want to live life fully in order to enjoy it, feel it, live it, and experience it. Even if it’s painful, tough, daunting, sad, lonely, or happy. It’s your life. The present moment is all you ever have. But, if your mind is off somewhere else, you’re not able to be present and appreciate the little things. These are the beautiful things that make life worth living.
The little things are how you spend the first hour of your morning. It’s how you nourish your body, move your body, and ultimately take care of yourself. It’s the words you use and how you speak to yourself. It’s what you decide to consume, watch, or listen to. It’s the people you surround yourself with and allow into your life that either lift you up or bring you down. It’s how and what you spend your money on. It’s everything from your surroundings, environment, work, wellbeing, etc. Everything makes up the life you’re currently living. These are the little things that can help you appreciate where you are.
There is an eyes open quote that says “in order for there to be miracles, you must be present enough to witness the miracles that are already happening” around you. Start by enjoying a slow morning and just appreciate where you are. Put down your phone, relax, spend time with loved ones, savor the sunshine on your skin, go for a walk outdoors and feel the breeze on your face. Throughout the day tune into yourself and work on being present. The moment you’re in right now is meant to be enjoyed and experienced to its fullest potential. Be where your feet are. Find the appreciation for the present moment.
Not all moments in your life are going to be spectacular. You’re going to experience some tough times. But, you’d rather only experience the good things in life. However, a life full of only the highest of highs is not realistic. You need to know the low moments in order to appreciate the highlights in life. The lows help you to become better, teach you life lessons, and set you on a new path. Experiencing sadness, fear, self doubt, worry, anxiety, stress, and heartbreak allows you to learn those critical life lessons. This is part of the human experience. You may want to avoid these down moments but each one is an important lesson to teach you something. You must be present and appreciate all the moments in life, including the not so great ones.
Sometimes you get so caught up in the future instead of being in the present moment. You begin thinking you’re not quite where you’d like to be. Dismiss any thoughts that make you feel like you’re falling behind. Remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can and the fact that you keep showing up is all that matters. Be present to where you are right now. You are exactly where you’re supposed to be. Trust that life is happening for you and that good things are on the way to you. You don’t need to stress, fear, or worry about what’s coming. Just be present and appreciate where you are right now.
The reality is tomorrow may never come. All you have is right now and the present moment. Find gratitude for what you already have. Look around you and find those little things you can appreciate. Realize just how far you’ve come and how much stronger you are because of everything you’ve gone through and are still going through. You’re given this one life and moment in time. Five years from now might not arrive. Stop worrying, stressing, and fearing what’s coming in the future. Reconnect to yourself in the present moment and truly appreciate where you are.
