Six Steps To Track Your Goal Progress

Jun 18, 2020

You’ve set some big goals for yourself.  It’s time to take an assessment of your progress toward reaching them.  Utilize this six step process to track your goal progress so that you can make sure you achieve the goals that you’ve set.

1. Write Down Your Goals

The first step is to get clear on what your goals are.  Write down what exactly it is that you want to accomplish.  This will allow you to identify what you need to be working on.  You are more likely to achieve your goals when you write them down.

2. Figure Out Where You Are

The next step is to figure out where you are.  Take a look at how much progress you’ve already made to achieve your goals.  Write down what action steps you’ve been taking.  Now, don’t judge yourself.  If you realize you haven’t been taking action toward reaching your goals, don’t be too hard on yourself.  That’s why you’re doing this six step process.  There is still time to achieve your goals.  But, you can’t get there if you have no idea where you are right now.  Look at your goals and admit where you are.  Be completely honest with yourself.  Make a list of all the action steps you’ve taken toward your goals to get to where you are today.  In order to get from where you are to where you need to be, you need to start with figuring out where you are right now.

3. Assess Your Goals

The third step is to assess your goals.  Identify what is working and what isn’t.  Now is the perfect time to make any adjustments.  Fix what isn’t working and make improvements.  You may need to quit doing some things and replace them with better habits.  It is said that procrastination is destination distraction.  Eliminate distractions that are keeping you from working on your goals.  Consider things you need add more of.  This may be adding more scheduled time on your calendar to focus on activities related to achieving your goals.  Assess your goals and decide what’s working and what changes you need to make to achieve your goals.

4. Redefine Your Goals

Something you may have noticed when you were assessing your goals is that you may not have been making the progress that you’ve hoped.  Perhaps that’s because you’re not necessarily excited about your goals anymore.  In that case, you should redefine your goals.  Reconnect with your reason behind why you want to achieve your goals.  Remember why it’s important to you.  Think about what you could change about your goals in order to get excited about them again.  Redefine your goals so that it brings you joy, which will in turn keep you motived to achieve them.

5. Create An Action Plan

Now it’s time to create a new action plan for achieving your goals.  Take a look at your goals and make sure they are measurable.  There should be a clear way so that anyone will know when you’ve achieved your goals.  This also reduces confusion so you can track your progress.  Break down larger goals into smaller milestones.  This will keep you motivated by accomplishing these smaller milestones.  Make sure you schedule these milestones into your calendar.  Commit to taking daily action toward achieving your goals.  Continue to make any necessary adjustments as needed.  Most of all, just don’t stop!  You must keep taking action.  Create an action plan for achieving your goals and recommit to making them happen.

6. Setup Accountability

Lastly, it’s important to setup some accountability for yourself to ensure you’ll continue making progress on your goals.  This could be through external accountability by checking in with someone to hold you accountable or making your goals public by posting on social media about your progress.  You could also create some internal accountability where every day you keep track of your progress in a journal.  Decide what you need to do in order to setup accountability so that you’ll achieve your goals.

Use these six steps to help you track your goal progress.  Start by writing your goals down.  Next, figure out where you are and what progress you’ve made.  Then, assess your goals and deduce what’s working and what isn’t.  Decide if you need to redefine your goals so that you’re excited and motivated to continue working on them.  After that, create an action plan to achieve your goals.  Finally, setup accountability to ensure that you achieve your goals.  These six steps will help you keep track of your progress and achieve your goals in no time!
