Overcoming Limiting Beliefs To Achieve Your Goals

If you fast forward into the future to your 90 year old self, would you regret not going after your goals and dreams in life?  There are so many unrealized goals and dreams that are never achieved because of fear.  The fear of making a mistake, getting it wrong, looking silly, needing more expertise, not being the right time, etc.  It’s almost as if you believe that there will be a light bulb that goes off saying now is the perfect opportunity for you to go after your goals and dreams.  Yet, that never happens.  Instead, your goals and dreams fall to the back burner and just collect dust.  However, you can turn your dreams into reality by overcoming the limiting beliefs that are holding you back and keeping you stuck.

 

Journal Your Goals And Dreams

The first step is to journal all of your thoughts about your goals and dreams.  Think about everything you want to achieve in your lifetime.  Don’t sensor yourself and put limitations on your goals and dreams.  Give yourself permission to dream big!  This is your life and your personal, private journal so write down all your hearts desires.  Writing gives you clarity on what you want to achieve.  Plus, you’re more likely to turn it into reality when you write it down.

 

Journal Your Fears And Limiting Beliefs

Next, write down what’s holding you back from going after your goals and dreams.  Maybe something is currently going on in your life right now that is taking priority.  You’re worried that you won’t have enough time.  Perhaps you’ve been sitting on a big goal or dream for quite some time and you just haven’t made any progress.  Ask yourself what’s preventing you from taking action.  Write down your fears and what’s keeping you stuck.  Repeatedly ask yourself why you’re not taking action and dig deep to peel back the layers.  Just when you think you’ve written down everything, keep going.  You may find that there is a past experience in your life that has formed a limiting belief as to why you think you can’t achieve your goals for whatever reason.  Continue writing to discover what that is.  When you acknowledge your fears, you’ll be more aware of when it surfaces so that you can overcome it.

 

Take Action

Then, you have to work to change your beliefs by taking action.  Perhaps that is getting more knowledge or expertise by reading a book, taking a class, etc.  Maybe that’s just going for it and taking action to put yourself out there.  Simply try taking one step towards achieving your goals.  As Wayne Gretzky says, “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” so start taking action now!  It could be you finally acknowledge that there is never going to be the perfect time so you might as well start right now.  You’ll face additional challenges in the future, but if you want to achieve your goals and dreams, you need to act now!  Stop waiting and putting your goals on hold.

 

 

When you look back on your life, would you rather know that you lived life to your full potential or always wondering what could have been?  It’s time to go after your goals and dreams.  Stop waiting for the right time and everything to be perfect because it never will be.  You need to have the courage to take action and go after what you truly want in life.  Stop letting your limiting beliefs and fears hold you back.  Write down your goals and dreams.  Then, write down your fears and limiting beliefs as to why you think you can’t achieve your goals and dreams.  Acknowledge what each one is so you can overcome it by taking action.  Your goals and dreams won’t wait forever.  The time is now!  Go after your goals and dreams in life.  Live the life you’ve always imagined!
