How To Stop Feeling Jealous Of Someone Else’s Success

Jul 23, 2020

Comparing yourself to others can wreak serious havoc on your mindset.  You see others success and wonder why you don’t have the same in your life.  You want what they have.  This stems from a mindset of lack rather than abundance.  Essentially, it’s also a form of jealously.  When negativity is brewing in your head, you need to learn to refocus your energy and get yourself out of that jealous funk.  Here are four steps on how to stop feeling jealous of someone else’s success.

Success Is Abundant

When you see someone else has received a promotion or good fortune, know that was meant for them in that moment.  It can be hard, but celebrate their success.  You may feel a twinge of jealousy but realize that this is proof and evidence that the same, if not greater success, is possible for you too.  Come from a place of abundance where you believe there is more to go around.  Your time will come.  It’s just a matter of time, being patient, and remaining positive.  Do not let another person’s success bring you down.  It will happen for you too.  Believe it is possible.  Learn to replace your jealous thoughts with positive, abundant ones.

Acknowledge Your Thoughts

If you find yourself feeling jealous of someone else’s success then take note of those feelings.  Acknowledge the thoughts.  You are in control of your thoughts that determine your feelings.  You have the power to change your thoughts which will in turn change your feelings.  Get out of that negative headspace and think positive thoughts of abundance.  Watch as your mood transforms and the negativity dissipates into happiness.

List Your Successes

One method you can use to shift your thoughts is to recall all the successes you have in your own life.  Take inventory of moments in your life that you’ve had success.  Make a list of things you are grateful for.  Think about recent events that have brought good things into your life.  You have things to be thankful for.  The truth is, you often see someone else’s success but forget all about the success in your own life.  Remember your own success so that you can dissolve your jealous, negative attitude and restore your positive outlook in life.

Focus On You

Take a moment to dive deeper with the meaning behind your jealous thoughts.  The bigger reason why you feel jealous is because you feel unworthy or not enough.  This is when you need to show yourself some self love.  Know that you are worthy and enough just as you are.  Another person’s success does not define you.  It certainly does not diminish what you’re capable of.  Focus on what opportunities you have and make the most of them.  Put blinders on and run your own race.  Do not allow yourself to get distracted by comparing yourself to others and what they have.  What success someone else has nothing to do with you and your own success.  Focus on you, your life, and your future.

Use these four steps to help you bust through your negativity when you find yourself comparing what you have to someone else.  Start by being the bigger person and celebrating another person’s success.  Even if you find it difficult because you feel a bit jealous.  Next, acknowledge the jealous thoughts and know that you have the power to change your thoughts.  The best way you can change your thoughts is to remember all the successes you have in your own life.  Be grateful for what you have.  Lastly, focus on you, your life, and the opportunities in front of you.  Please know, that someone else’s success does not define you.  You are right where you need to be and you have all the power within you to make your life amazing.  Stop comparing yourself to others and make the most of what you have.  There is so much success in store for you.  It’s time to go out and create it.  You are meant for greatness!
