How To Eliminate Your Comfort Zone

Nov 28, 2019

Your comfort zone is the place where you feel safest.  Your brain knows what to expect when you’re in your comfort zone.  When you step outside your comfort zone unpredictable things can happen.  Fear takes over from the unknown and self doubt kicks in.  You think you should run and hide back in your comfort zone where you feel safe.

The size of your comfort zone may be smaller or larger than someone else.  Each person has their own defined comfort zone.  Your experiences define the lines you’ve created for your personal comfort zone.  Visually you’ve put yourself in a box that’s called your comfort zone.  Your box expands when you try something new and step outside your comfort zone.  You’ve learned this is safe and acceptable to include in your box so the lines grow longer.

Imagine what would happen if you didn’t have a comfort zone.  If there were no boundary lines the world would be limitless.  You would do things that you were once afraid of doing.  You would dream big and go after your goals.  This also includes putting yourself out there without the fear of others judging and criticizing you.  You can see that the lines of your comfort zone are holding you back.

The truth is, you’ve put yourself in a box with lines that say what is safe and what isn’t.  You have defined those lines.  In reality, there are no lines.  The lines are invisible and only exist in your mind.  The challenge becomes to remove those lines.

Here are three steps to help you eliminate your comfort zone.

1. Invisible Lines

The first step is to acknowledge that the lines of your comfort zone are only made up in your mind.  They are invisible and only exist because you put them there.  The good news is, you have the ability to remove them because you’re the one who created them.

2. Test The Limits

The next step is to start building your confidence by pushing yourself to try new things.  Expand your comfort zone and work on living outside the invisible lines you’ve created.  Recognize when you feel fear and self doubt because you’re trying something new.  Embrace these feelings and test the limits of your comfort zone.  This will enlarge your comfort zone.  Best of all, it will allow you to build the confidence in yourself that will enable you to eliminate your comfort zone.

3. Eliminate Your Comfort Zone

Lastly, eliminate the lines of your comfort zone once and for all.  Believe that you can do anything you set your mind to.  These lines are only holding you back and preventing you from living life to your fullest.  You are in control and can challenge yourself to remove these limiting beliefs that are keeping you confined to living within your comfort zone.  Everything you’ve ever wanted in life is right outside your comfort zone.

You’ve put yourself in a box labeled your comfort zone and now it’s time to break free!  Begin by realizing that you put the lines there in the first place.  Next, test the limit of your boundaries to build confidence in yourself.  Lastly, eliminate your comfort zone box by acknowledging it’s actually holding you back in life and preventing you from living the life you’ve always imagined.

Remember, you created the lines that define your comfort zone box.  But, in reality, these lines don’t really exist.  You have all the power to eliminate them and start living life to the fullest.
