It’s officially December! You may be feeling the pressure to try and make up for lost time in regards to your goals. You maybe thinking that you can scramble, push extra hard, work furiously, and actually squeak out achieving the goal you’ve set by the end of the year. But, is that really the best move? Be realistic with what you can achieve this month. Be practical and don’t overwhelm yourself by overloading your schedule with ten million to dos. Here are four things you can achieve this month in order to set yourself up for success in the new year.
First, reconnect to yourself, your goals, and your dreams. The year is almost over. You may not be exactly where you had hoped. But, you are here, so let’s end the year on a high note! Revisit your vision for this year and acknowledge if it’s changed. Maybe you’ve veered off course or your goal no longer aligns with what you want in your life. You may need to revise your goal and what you can realistically accomplish by the end of the year. You’re allowed to make changes and adjustments along the way. The path is not perfectly laid out nor set in stone. Get clear on what your main focus is this month and how you can end the year strong.
Next, make a list of what you need to get done. Get everything out of your head and down on paper. All those to dos, errands, little tasks, appointments, goal related action steps, etc. Now, it’s time to prioritize! Decide what you absolutely must get done before the new year. Do not overwhelm yourself. If you’re already stressing out, then it’s important to start delegating tasks to others that you specifically do not have to do. Do not be afraid to ask for help. If you really want to get all of this done before the new year arrives, you can’t expect to do it alone! Recognize if you’ve got too much on your plate to complete before the new year. Delete any tasks or move them to next year that are not crucial or critically important to your end of year success.
Then, realize if you’ve been working too hard. This is a tough one because you’ve already got a lot to do. Perhaps it’s just been a busy year all around and you need to slow down. If it’s going to be a busy month too, you really need to schedule in some white space. You have to take care of yourself so that you don’t burn out before the new year. Find time for yourself and those that matter. This is a special time of year and you don’t want to miss out on the most important things. Don’t get lost in all your to dos and busyness. Instead, schedule in something memorable and make some lasting memories. Maybe that’s a trip, staycation, romantic dinner, outdoor adventure, or an activity that brings you joy and laughter. Focus on making time for what’s most important this month so that you can end the year right.
Lastly, commit to choosing one single thing that you can do each day this month. Maybe that’s taking time for self care, using your planner daily, starting your mornings with a healthy breakfast, moving your body for at least five minutes every day, silencing your phone during meals, etc. Establish a new healthy habit that replaces a not so favorable one. Choose something little that you can do from now until the end of the year that will set you up for success as you go into the new year.
There is only so much time left in the year and you want to do ALL the things! Work to achieve your goal, complete your never ending to do list, spend time with friends and family, etc. This is an important time of year so make the most of it. Focus on what’s most important and create a plan to make it happen! Prioritize what’s most important in your life and focus on doing more of that this month. This time of year is already busy and it goes by quickly. Do not let the clock strike midnight before you achieve what you set out to do! Adjust your plan for this month and end this year on a high note, ready for the new year.
