Five Things To Let Go Of This Year

In order to achieve your goals in the new year, you’re going to need to let go of a few things that have been holding you back.  Leave behind what’s not serving you so that you can step into the new year with a clear, fresh, and focused mind.  Here are five things to let go of this year.



The first thing you’re going to need to let go of is seeking validation from others.  Stop looking for approval from other people before taking action towards your goals.  What someone else thinks has no bearing on what you can achieve.  Constantly searching for approval will only hinder your progress towards achieving your goals.  Don’t let others limit what you can and cannot do.  Instead, focus on what you want and what you’re working towards.  Find your own internal acceptance by loving who you are and being proud of yourself for what you can achieve.



One of the biggest things you’ll need to let go of is worry.  Worrying about what you cannot control will only increase your anxiety about a worst case scenario that rarely happens.  The truth is, life will continue to happen and you can only control how you respond.  You respond with your initial thoughts which in turn determine your feelings.  Choose to think positively and believe that things will work out.  This will help you to release the worry and any negative feelings associated with worrying.  Let go of what you can’t control and focus on what you can control.



Next, let go of comparison.  Avoid comparing your chapter one to someone else’s chapter twelve which is miles ahead of you.  Comparing where you are to someone else has nothing to do with your ability to achieve your goals.  Put blinders on and run your own race.  Unfollow accounts that bring you down because you’re comparing yourself and your life to what you see on social media.  Also, limit spending time with people who point out your shortcomings in comparison to others.  Instead, focus on you and what you need to be doing.  You are fully capable of achieving amazing things.  Don’t think any less of yourself because of what you see other people doing in comparison.


Self Doubt

Self doubt can massively hold you back from achieving your goals by preventing you from taking action.  It’s time to let go of the self doubt and start believing in yourself.  Believe that your success is inevitable.  Have faith that everything will work out, even if you don’t have all the answers and a clear path figured out just yet.  Take one small step and the next step will appear.  As Rumi says, when you walk on the way, the way appears.  Have unwavering belief in yourself and your goal.  Don’t let self doubt stop you from achieving your goals.



Lastly, you’re going to have to let go of the hustle mentality.  Working non stop to achieve your goals will only leave you feeling exhausted.  This often leads to goal burn out when you’ve reached a breaking point and are too tired to keep moving forward.  Make sure you stop to ensure the you’re moving in the right direction towards achieving your goals.  Schedule in down time to relax, recharge, and reassess.  Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up.  Create new habits and routines that will help support times of rest instead of getting swept up in the hustle.



Consider what you need to let go of so that you can fully step into the version of you that you need to be in the new year in order to achieve your goals.  Make a list of the things that you need to let go of.  Most of them are fear based.  Then, replace the things holding you back with new thoughts and beliefs that better serve you.  Imagine how you would feel, act, show up, and be able to achieve in the new year if you just let go of these things.  Here’s to letting go of this year and moving forward into the next with a fresh perspective.
