Five Reasons Why You Need A Goal

Feb 17, 2022

Think about what setting a goal might do for you.  Perhaps it will improve your life in some way.  Maybe it will make you a better person.  Or, it could just be that it moves you from where you are to where you want to be.  If you’re ready to find out what setting a goal can do for your life, then here are five reasons why you need a goal.

Clarity

Having a goal gives you clarity on what exactly it is that you want to achieve.  Without a goal, you’re just going through the daily motions of life without a clear path.  Almost like a boat, floating aimlessly in the ocean without any idea of where it will end up.  A goal gives you direction and focus.  You know where you want to be and what you’re working towards.  You have a clear direction to move forward towards something that you want in your life.  Like a beacon of light in the distance, you can clearly see where you’re headed when you have set a goal.

Motivation

A goal gives you motivation.  You’ll have a purpose and a reason to get up each morning.  You’ll wake up excited to tackle the day and work towards your goal.  A goal motivates you into action.  You’re forced to move forward and step outside your comfort zone.  A goal provides motivation with the prospect of achieving the amazing future you’ve envisioned for yourself.

Progress

You can measure your progress with a goal.  You can see where you began, where you are, and where you want to be.  Each step you take towards achieving your goal is progress whether it feels like it or not.  This is because with each step, you’re learning and growing along the way.  You’re increasing your knowledge and expertise with each experience you have.  Even if you encounter a setback, that is still a learning opportunity to improve for next time.  You’re becoming just a little bit better with each step and that is progress.

Become

The journey to achieving your goal is not easy.  But, who you become in the process of achieving your goal is what truly matters.  You’ll learn so much about yourself and life.  Along the way, you’ll meet people who will help shape your life and perspective.  Plus, the ups and downs of the journey will have a major impact on who it is that you become in the future.  With each experience, you’ll become stronger, wiser, and smarter.

Future

A goal pulls you into the future.  If you’re tired of living the same life on repeat then it’s time to set a goal for yourself.  You need something that will push you forward and into the future.  This is especially true if you know deep down that you’re meant for more.  You don’t want to live the same life year after year.  You want to make progress, become better, learn, and grow.  A goal helps you do that by propelling you forward and into the future of your dreams.

Having a goal will give your life so much more meaning.  You’ll have something to look forward to.  The experiences you’ll have in working towards your goal are what make life worth living.  Think about how far you will be at the end of the year if you take action and make progress towards a goal that you’ve set.  The possibilities are endless, but the first step is to set a goal that can inevitably change your life.
