Letting Go Of Your Limitations

Apr 25, 2019

You may not even realize it but you’re limiting yourself from living life to your fullest potential. Here are four ways you’re limiting yourself.

Fear

Fear limits you from trying new opportunities.  It’s easier to stay in your current situation than to try something new that you’ve never done before.  This is because you don’t know how it will turn out.

In new situations you automatically start running through all the different worst case scenarios.  Maybe you will fail, maybe it will feel uncomfortable or you’ll embarrass yourself.  You interpret the new opportunity as too hard, dangerous or too much to try.  Whatever it may be, your brain just wants to keep you “safe.”

Your brain knows that you’ll be safe by remaining in your comfort zone.  You won’t have to face failure, discomfort, or embarrassment.  Your brain decides that anything that is different than the norm should be avoided.  That’s why you crawl back into your comfort zone.  But this way of being only keeps you stuck in your current situation.

Irrational fears cause you to avoid new opportunities because of the fear it possesses. However, new opportunities allow you to learn, grow, and become a better person.  The truth is, successful people have learned the difference between feeling uncomfortable and actual life or death situations.  Although failure and discomfort will always exist, they are opportunities that you can learn from.

Looks

Often times you limit your ability based on your looks.  If you were to pause and hear the voice inside your head, you would probably hear some negative thoughts.  Thoughts of you’re too fat, your nose is too big, you have acne, etc.  You continually search for evidence to prove these thoughts true.  This especially happens when you compare yourself to other people.  Somehow, you never quite measure up to what they have. Soon you hear these negative thoughts so often that you start to believe them.  Now you have even more evidence to support your limitation.

You become so obsessed in these perceived physical flaws that you limit yourself from going after your dreams.  These negative thoughts blind you to the point that you lose sight of what you’re truly capable of.

You don’t have to limit yourself based off your looks.  In fact, your friends and family can easily tell you how extraordinary you are.  When you start hearing positive thoughts that say you’re pretty, beautiful, and worthy, you will finally be able to see what you’re truly capable of.  Best of all, over time, that vision will become more and more true.  That will become your new identity and new reality. Think about everything you could achieve if you let go of your limitation and stopped letting your looks hold you back.

Deserving

Believing that you deserve something better for yourself can be difficult.  Your mind will often limit you into believing that a mediocre life is okay.  You’ve become so comfortable with where you currently are, it’s hard to imagine something different. It starts with believing that you deserve more for your life.  Believe that you deserve success and go after it.  You are just as deserving, worthy, and capable of creating success as anyone else.

Other People

Allowing other people to dictate who you should be and what life you should live completely limits you. Growing up you may have been labeled as the shy or quiet child.  These labels shape your identity and carry you into adulthood.  Unfortunately, those labels can be limiting you from putting yourself out there and trying new things.

You’ve also been taught to follow a specific set of rules and stay within certain boundary lines.  All of these expectations were set by other people and what they believe you should do.  Society norms control the standard life track of graduating, getting a job, getting married, having kids, and eventually retiring.  All to be average and live a mediocre life.

However, you are not meant to be average and simply live a mediocre life.  You are capable of so much more.  Start by thinking outside the box.  Don’t conform.  Strive to be different.

All of these limitations are controlled by your thoughts.  Challenge yourself to think differently.  Don’t limit yourself with fears, insecurities, and what other people think. Let these limitations go.  Embrace fear and realize that new opportunities are simply ways to learn and grow.  Know that you are beautiful and capable of anything you set your mind to.  Believe in yourself and know that you deserve more. Don’t let other people stop you from going after your dreams.  Your future is limitless.
